Hey
It's the end of May and by now all universities have started to accept applications for medicine 2022.
I've applied to four universities so far (Wits, UP, UKZN,UFS). I received acknowledgement of my application from Wits, UP and UFS however there has been no word from UKZN. I am hoping no new is good news but I will call and enquire before the end of June. In an ideal world, my top 2 preferred universities accept me and I have the wonderful privilege of choice....but I am honestly just praying that at least one of the 10 universities gives me a chance. As a mature student, the spaces at every university are limited and students are currently graduating with record high averages due to online learning. Competitions is tight and probably very unfair to those who graduate before the pandemic and online assessments began.
I am really keen on hearing what your 2 preferred universities to study medicine in South Africa and why. When it comes to duration, it's Wits gemp (3 years) and UFS (5 years) for me. Beyond duration I think I prefer UP and UKZN. I personally know people that have gone through medicine at those institutions and they always praise how well the program was designed as well as the level of support offered by university structures.
Anyway, best of luck to everyone.
