Well…Hi there!
Firstly, thank you for visiting my blog.
At 26 and 3 (well almost) degree’s later, my heart yearns and dreams of being a medical doctor. I simply cannot let the dream go. I completed my Matric exams with excitement and faith that I would immediately get into the programme. Like many others, that dream did not materialize, and I was stuck having to settle for a BSc Medical Science which at the time I believed would be the best way into medicine post matric. Boy, was I wrong! I have completed an honours degree and I am now at the end of my Masters degree. The skills and knowledge I have gained throughout both these degrees has been immense but not enough to forget my passion to study medicine. In fact, my time in this field has fueled my desire and I know that I would like to still contribute to the medical community. I believe that doctors who’s medical journey is not the traditional route can provide a different perspective to the field.
This blog will chronical myself and my 2021 journey to try get into a medical school in South Africa as a postgraduate student. I am hoping for the best because I strongly feel like there is no other career that would make me as happy or fulfilled. So, join me as share my journey applying all to the medical schools in South Africa.
I aim to try share as much information as I can find on application requirements and selection processes across the different Universities. I also will explore funding opportunities (Which are extremely hard to find as a postgraduate student) as well as alternative career options. I will also share the many mistakes I’ve made since my first application in 2013.
If you are also a postgraduate student applying for medicine, I truly wish you all the best. This journey can be painful and often one feels like a failure. I have felt this way often.
Sunny
